First Snow on the Missions

We woke up this morning and there was a skiff of fresh snow on the Mission Mountains! Can winter be far off?

Read in the paper yesterday that they were predicting snow somewhere out there. Yep, only a matter of time.

It warms up around the 3rd of July and then starts coolin' back down on the 5th in your country, doesn't it? :>)

You could send a tad bit of that cool down this way. It was around 100 here yesterday and they are calling for the same thing today and maybe tomorrow. Went from cool and wet to hot and dry then cool for a week with a little bit of rian now hot again.

There actually was a a winter storm warning for the higher elevations of Glacier National Park Wednsday. It has the same elevations as the Missions.

Well it"s not that bad , Allan. But when the seasons change it happens like pronto! Overnight.

It"s generally frost free from May 31st to September 30th. But we"ve had snow in mid-June and it"s possible to have snow at any given time according to the historical record. Last year it dropped below zero on the first of October.I"ve only lived here since October of 2002 but when the seasons change, they just don"t ease into it. It happens over night.

We"ve had a nice summer and thanks to the record snowfall last year we still have irrigation water. There"s a lot of snow still in the high country. We haven"t had a run of heat like you folks have had this year but a few years back we a had a low snowpack and and about 50 staright days above 95°F and we couldn"t keep the place for burnin" up. That"s considered hot up here.
This year we had a cool spring that set the garden back about three weeks. In may, I was lookin" for grass for the cows bwcause nothing was growing. We got about 4 warm days and you had to jump out of the way the grass was growing so fast! We cut hay at the just after 4th of July and it was four and a half feet tall.
Nothing we can do about thewaether exept adjust to it!

beautiful country , looked at it on the internet , but I like short winters . Think I'll stay in Va.
