Replacing link sections on a New Holland 851 Apron chain

Howdy, Today I noticed that a few links were broken on my NH 851s apron chain. I tried to replace one section and ended up grinding off a few rivets and struggeling with a hammer and punch to get them out then rigging it up as best as I could with a fence stretcher and ratchet strap. I also had to remove an extra master link the previous owner had put in in place of a broken link I assume. Is there a better or an easier way to do this? Any help is appreciated I have hay on the ground and theyre calling for rain here.

When I did that on my 850NH I used a com-a-long and wraped it so as to hook it around a couple bars out past the bad link areas and that way I had a good bit of slack and made it easy to work on. Still have 3 of the new repair links sitting right here on the desk and I think they are the same as on your 851 part #634340 and I found they where not at all hard to replace

We would use a solid bar ratcheting fence stretcher, then put a chain around the bars as a back up if the stretcher slipped off.

If your chains are getting worn out expect to replace a few links every season. I think it was about $800(i can't remember because dad bought them) for new chains, it stopped the breaking down and improved the density of the bales a lot.

So far not getting what Im looking for. I used a mic of come along ratchet strap fence stretcher and log chain and chain binder. I would like to know how you went about removing the bad links and installing new ones?

I use a big ratchet strap to pull the chain together then grind the head off the pins then clamp the link your driving the pin out of with a big pair of vise grips to keep the link from spreading

I also bought a small vice and mounted on a block of wood to Do the floor chains that might work if you have somebody to hold the vise for you
