Olivers with checker grills

I have a 550 Oliver with a checkered grill. I see on a few web-sites that some of the 3 digit series (770, 880 etc.) have checkered grills. Was this a model series in and around 1965 or was it only used on specific models. How hard is it to find these for sale. Moving in on retirement and am thinking about beginning a collection.

According to C.H. Wendel He doesnt have specific information; but states that the grill changed sometime in 1962, or maybe 63. He also says apparently there was a mix of grills coming off the assembly line until the supply of regular grills ran out.

The 550 and 770 were the only tractors with the plastic checker board grill. Starting in late 1963, this type of grill was used to update the old models so they looked like the big tractors.

Those grill are being reproduced, but they are somewhat expensive.

oliver fan has it correct, the checkerboard 550s and 770s are easy to find.
