WOW , that's unbeliveable .... I travel that section alot .. going to Omaha ...

Looks to me if they want to replace some highway ... just FLOOD it and the BREAKING will be done .. lol

Whoa! Guess we can't complain about the lack of rain here in cIllinois.
Kinda think they need to send that river back to Missouri. Just when all the governments are trying to trim budgets.

I live in NW Missouri and the interstate is closed from Rockport, MO north. The latest estimates Ive heard is that it will be at least a year before a person can travel from here to Omaha on I-29. I,m sure we will have 1000,s of acres of farmland ruined.

I'm speaking from 1000 miles away, but couldn't they find any high ground to build that interstate on?

That is amazing! I've never seen flood damage like that to a road before. How long exactly was the water on the road in those pics? I know its been several months I think but just curious.

The damage occured because the Army Corps of Engineers didn't have enough sense to release water from the Gavins Point dam until they had no choice, and then they had to release SOOO much that it caused flooding and wreaked havoc all the way down the Missouri River. Thousands and thousands of acres of crop ground, which was already planted, are now lost and probably will not raise a crop for many years to come. In addition to the crop acres lost, many, many fine people lost their homes, barns, and other buildings, and many businesses in towns all up and down the river are now just gone.

The serious flooding started around the 1st of June. They are slowly closing the flood gates at Gavins Point dam, and they say it will be back in its banks by the middle of September.
