Holy bank account Batman!!!!!!!

Guy over here had someone ship him a silverado.... Said it had a loud muffler so they put an ultraflow (?) aftermarket one on for him before shipping.. FF and he was just here and said his muffler looks like it exploded like putting a can of pop in the freezer.
Wondering how that could happen and believe it has something to do with the truck being converted to run propane or gasoline. He swears that ain't it tho....... Anyway, he wants the original muffler so I go online and google it. Only two sites I found were asking right at 1000 bucks for the muffler. Ultraflow is at about 120....

Any idea what could have blown the muffler up? AND where I may be able to order an OEM for a decent price? I'm think he's got something wrong and is gonna ruin whatever he puts on it in short order.

Anyone had a problem like that??

Thanks, Dave

Not sure what would cause it to explode other than being filled with something. If plugged, I would think the engine would stall before blowing up.

There is a muffler on ebay that isn"t bad looking for $375. The other option is a junk yard.

Only one I ever saw like that was on a 75 F350, flooded trying to start, shot of ether and still wouldnt start, pulled it to start it...... When all the excess gas and ether hit, it hit......

Should be a lot of oem ones around, seems a lot of
owners are running loud dual exhaust! The originals
last a long time so they have to be laying
somewhere.

I know its a long-shot, but.......if there was one blown up muffler truck, maybe there is a junked truck.....

Is that outlandish price just for the muffler, or does that include the cat. converter as well? It should include the complete exhaust system as well as installation.

When I worked summers for the Corps of Engineers in high school, we were on the restroom cleaning detail one summer. Always goofing around, 3 of us to a pickup, we thought it was cool to reach over and shut off the ignition when going down the road....until the muffler exploded. We told the fleet mechanic that the truck had backfired....like he believed that one! Had to behave after that.....

some new car mufflers do look like over expanded
pop cans. Might just be the construction style?
