Ford 8N Hydrolic lift tractor

While trying to mow my lift it wont stay in place it keeps lowering it is showing that it is full of fluid on the dip stick and not showing any leaks. if it has to much Hydrolic fluid in it would it cause it to drop while mowing and cause problems? or any advice or suggestions would be appreciated thanks Shane 214-697-0031

do you have the little lever under the right side of seat in the up position?down position is draft control and thats either up or down no in between.if you do have it up probably cam follower pin.

Most people I know that have 8n's use limit chains on them. Just like the ones on the old sycle mowers. that were made for the 9n's.

if its lifting ok every thing else working,i would look at adjusting and replacing the cam follower.zanes jig is a great help for this.on mine in position control it will drift some .generally if it just slowly goes down,i can raise touch lever very slightly and it will stop.mine sort of hunts some.

You might want to check the large spring at the top link. It needs to be adjusted until the spring will just turn by hand with no tension on the top link. Joe

if using depth limit chains you must have them set loose as normally you set the height with the lift, set chains, relaxe lift and mow, and nothing drops on ya.

you in draft mode?

Shane.......you ask......."if it has to much Hydrolic fluid in it would it cause it to drop while mowing and cause problems?"........NO!!!

Make certain yer little "flush" handle under yer right knee is UP for mowing. Horizontal is fer plowing.

Enny time you have "hydraulic issues", remove yer 6" roundy dipstick plate behind yer right heel and look fer "squirts". 2-places fer squirts.

Always check fer hydro-tranny oil level by removing yer 6-o'clock bolt and letter drip down the side of yer tranny. OVERFILL is NOT GOOD as it leaks out yer axle seals and greases yer brakes, also out the tranny frontseal and greases yer clutch. .......HTH, Dell

the mower leaks down. on one side it's on the right side it leaks down.then then i have to pull my lift up to bring it back up. thanks for the help Shane

that's what depth limit chains are good for.. no leakdown.. chains don't leak.. :)

again.. are you in draft mode? lift should not 'leak down' with pump running.. it may drift however, if in draft mode..

not to be a jerk or anything but what you say cant happen on a 8n.not with the hydraulics anyway.both arms are attached to a common rockshaft with a common cyl.both would leak down equaly.my guess if one side goes down, you need to look at your leveling link not your hydraulics.its very common for the threads on these to wear out and slip. if it is one lift arm moving you would have to have a broken rock shaft,or a arm thats stripped where its attached to the rockshaft.i would greatly suspect if its only moving on one side you need adjuster work.
