Finally took 5 minutes to check out my Hydro 70, which developed a miss early this spring.

No compression at 2 and 3. Damned head gasket is blown again, which means that the block is warped.

Really, really tempted to take that sweet little 239D out of that old IH swather and make a 544 out of 'er. :>(

Allan here lately I have had a chance to purchase some real good running dt 239s for a thousand or so.. Ten years ago I got that much for ever crank I could find and a running engine would bring $ 2500.00 or so but now every one is replacing the d239s with the little 3.9 cummings. That is the hot enigne now. I am like the other poster doubt it is the block probably just the head.. By the way how is the healt ..are you up for another Neberaska winter..
If it is as cold there as it was hot here this summer will be tough ? Jerry

Don't know whether it would work on your tractor or not,but knew a blacksmith that had an old car that had several owners because of blown headgaskets. He bought a new gasket and soaked it in the rain barrel while he removed the head and old gasket from the engine. He drove it for several years without further gasket trouble. Did that to a two cylinder outboard motor that would blow gaskets between the cylinders, fixed it too. Apparently soaking in water softens the gasket enough for it to conform to a warped surface. HOW is stop-leak going to fix a head gasket blown BETWEEN ADJACENT CYLINDERS and NOT into the cooling system???

Don't know how much the head bolts stretched of if been torqued more than twice ?
