The metal recycler picked up his metal bin yesterday. The scrapper told me I had 23,400 pounds. Not sure of the price yet but they told me a couple weeks ago around 260.00 ton. I can hear him now, sorry we had a large decrease in metal prices last week. No good tractors were harmed in this cleanup. Stan
 
Ask if he is paying you on the net ton or the gross ton. If on the net it is 2000lbs a ton . If on the gross 2240lbs . It's a little trick they play to make it in there favor. I deal with this every day so I have to watch all the time.
 
Take your 23,400 and divied that by 2240lbs and that will be your gross ton. The mills do this so they basicly get something for nothing. They say it's because that's how it's sold on the world market. I have to explain this all the time to customers for the scrap company I work for when the math dosen't add up. I personaly like the old 2000lbs way better easier to do the math.
 
I dont know who came up with this junk,but theres no such thing as a gross ton.there is the long ton which is 2240 lbs.you should check with weights and measures and find out if it is legal.

its like here in new mexico the only legal wood measure is a cord.however there are plenty of people,ready to cheat you
 
Maybe you should contact the dictionary and tell them there is no such thing as a gross ton.
 

Better to figure price by the pound. My recollection is thats the way I was paid last time I sold any.

Never mind.According to Google there is a gross ton. It's 1016.04691 KG or 2240 lbs. Why so many different measurments? Just stick with a regular ton. 2000 lb.Nice and simple to figure out.
 
We are getting (delivred to the mill) 16 cents a lb. or $320.00 for every 2,000 lb ton here close by. They are sayin price will hold till end of the year. Lots of old iron going in. Saw a man drive a 55 year old td 24 off the truck removede his batteries and got a big check.
