Hay on the ground and it rains

I held off last week because of a looming forecast for Friday and Saturday (clear the rest of the 10 day outlook), and started cutting on friday. That rain never showed up, same thing on Saturday so I finished up cutting our hay.

Sunday my wife and I went to the brown county fair to watch the rodeo (my mom won free tickets on the radio) and when we were walking back t the car, we got hit by a qucik shower that didn't even wet the dust. Monday back at the farm, forcast changed from clear all week to thunderstorms all day Tuesday. Decided to rake some anyway and throw the dice. Also cut our oats that grew back after the oats/peas mix was taken off with 1st crop, and then chopped it and made a small drive over pile. Lots of alfalfa in it, but lots of velvet leaf too. Should still make some good feed once it's fermented some.

The rain Tuesday morning went around us, but gave another quick shower that was just enough to wet the hay.

Tuesday evening/night the real storms rolled in and we got a good 1/2" of rain, and a few hail stones thrown in for good measure.

I spent my morning with my wife and son as he turned 1 year old today. Just about all afternoon I was raking the hay so it doesn't start to get musty, and for the most part it still looks really nice and green. It's drying nicely with the strong winds we've had all day, so tomorrow morning we should be able to start baling the hay finally. Hopefully we can get it done fast enough that I have time to finish my yardwork before my son's 1st birthday party. I spent my morning with my wife and son as he turned 1 year old today.

Hay prices may spike a little bit locally too as the alfalfa mill about 1 1/2 miles from my house had a fire 2 weeks ago- 7500 large squares and rounds burned.

Just another day on the farm, except I'm on vacation this week from my real job.
