Ford 3600 losing oil.

I replaced the head gasget on my Ford 3600 and had a hard time getting it started. After finally getting it running again, it woud not throttle up more than an idle with the throttle wide open. It also smoked a lot too. I let it run this way for about an hour and then shut it down. Checked the oil level and it was about three quarts low. It was full of new oil when I started it up. Any ideas? I"m thinking broke or stuck rings since the tractor has not ran in about eighteen mths, but not sure. If oil is getting by the rings, will this stop the motor from throttling up? Any Ideas? Thanks!

3 quarts in an hour is major oil burn...probably broken rings with that much oil consumption. It's going to have to come apart to find all the issues as they're has to be more than one with that kind of oil loss.

Also check your crankcase vent. is it plugged?

man that's alotta oil. i would be thinking broke or worn out rings vs stuck rings for that much pumping, assuming it's not puking it on the ground somewhere.. or giving it to another sump..
