OT: Bifocals and Bows

For years I have taken off my glasses to shoot my bow, because I can't find a good anchor point with clear vision with them on. But now days everything is blurry without my glasses on. Has anyone else had this problem, and found a way to shoot with progressive lenses?

Been shooting my bow for 15 years with bi and tri focals without a problem. Just took some getting used to. I never thought a peep site would help, but it did. BTW, I have never been able to see well enought to shoot the bow without glasses and I'm 58.

How big is the peep site hole? You can buy larger ones and they will allow more lite thru. I use a larger peep and so far, approaching 62, it works okay. I know what you mean about the blurry.

RC---been hunting/shooting a bow for 50 years, recently with bifocals....total PIA....

Right not I use a big rear peep site, single pin, and look "over the top" of my glasses in order to keep a good, solid, sustainable anchor point......

I am almost ready to try the Lasik routs, just so I can continue hunting with my bow....I have really gone just about full circle from my days of instinctive style shooting.

Season just 4 weeks away for us WI Guys.....good luck to all hunting this year...

Have been using the progressive lenses for more than a decade. They work very well for me. A few weeks ago, print, especially small, suddenly became blurred. I thought my vision had changed. This, I think can be a symptom of other serious health problems, then I noticed the nose piece on my frames was bent and remembered a tree that I had run into just prior to the vision problem. I had my glasses guy straighten them out, problem solved. Because of the size of the focal point on the progressives, it can make a big difference if they are not lined up correctly with your eyes.

Parker crossbow. Aimpoint, electronic sight or a crossbow scope. I have used both. I like the actual scope, as I sometime would forget to turn the aimpoint off and go back a week later and the battery was dead. Finally taped an extra battery to the stock.

I have a special permit to use the crossbow due to shoulder problems and a torn bicep tendon.

I am trying to work back into a compound bow though. That danged crossbow is bulky, heavy and cumbersome.

I don't use a peep sight anymore I found a product called Anchor Sight. They have a web site and the guy is great to deal with.

Personally I am not a hunter, but this is a suggestion I would make.

Next time you go for a eye exam tell the Optometrist/Opthamaligist your situation. Then ask him for a prescription for "Hunting" glasses. This should get you a set that has the right correction for the range you are looking at.

I know people who have had this sort of thing done. Most common is reading glasses of course. When in college I knew a old JD parts man who had trifocals made with the same correction top and bottom and the other in the middle. Made it easier for him to read part no.s on the higher shelves.

Just a thought.

I'm sitting here on day two of wearing progressives for the first time with my key board waving around in front of me and eyes straining.

This is my biggest fear of when I pick my bow up and try to shoot for the first time with these things on.

Gene I am guessing you have a cross bow permit for deer hunting right?? I to have one. They are now making a lot of cross b9ows that are a good bit light then the old ones. I know my Barnett quad 300 is a heavy one but have a friend who just got a new one and it is only about half what the quad 300 is so you might check that out. Even saw in a magazine one based on the stock of the AR15 and is said to be under 8 lbs

Ya know how you feel. I only use scoops on my weapons but one of theses days I will need to wear my glasses and do not look forward to that day. My wife thinks I should try wearing them this year when hunting and she thinks I will do better with them on but they are bifocals and ya I do not wear them often not even right now. Hope you figure it out because I know I would like to hear how others got around it before I have to try

Comon guys!
I've worn glasses since I was 5 and now have progressives. Never had a problem shooting either bows or rifles.
I suggest you're not used to your glasses yet.

I've shot recurve and compound bows, tank weapons, still shoot rifle, pistol, black powder and cross bow with bifocals. Never had a problem. Once you get used to them it's just second nature.
