Log splitter with Onan

I inherited a home built log splitter from my dad. I replaced one flat tire, heavy float and got it running. It had an Onan CCK that was still hard to start and did not have a lot of power.

I checked the points and they were hardly opening. I filed them and gapped them correctly. It really runs good now.

I am proud to use it.

The CCK was the workhorse for Onan. Started out in WWII as the CK. Cast iron block and very hard to destroy.Post the full model and serial number. I can tell you when it was made.

Onan tech since 1980

I will do that, my dad got it off of a wrecked refrigeration semi in the 60s. It sat in his shop for 30 years until he found a use for it.

We used a lot of portable generators that had Onan engines on them. We had a mobile field dynamometer that had a 500hp Ford engine for the electric drive and a Reo truck engine and one of those Onan generators sat right along side of those engines. No problem cooling. It was used for our instrumentation and air conditioning when running drawbar pull on test vehicles. Hal
PS: I used an old 10hp Tecumseh engine off a Sears garden tractor to run this log splitter I built in 1982. I bought the 2-stage pump and control valve from Northern Hydraulics. The hydraulic cylinder was a steering cylinder off of
an 8 ton Goer. Bought it at a government auction.
