White 2-135 series 3 price???

Was looking into possibly buying a 2 wheel drive White 2-135 tractor. I believe it is series 3 as it has the red stripe with the 'WFE' emblem on it. Is this right? It is listed as a 1978, has about 3500 hours, and has been repowered with a cummins 5.9 about 2000 hours ago, has good tires and duals, heat and air in the cab, new clutch, good interior, good paint, sharp tractor. What would be a ballpark fair price for this machine? I see a lot of these at about 12000 dollars but they don't have the cummins, aren't series 3, and aren't in as good of shape cosmetically.

Thanks in advance!

Series 3 tractors didn't come out until 1983. Easy way to tell, the cab on Series 3 is totally isolated. 1978 would be a series 1.

Cameron,
I just went to my late neighbor's farm estate auction last Thursday. There was a 2-135 1977 I believe. I don't know what diesel engine it had,I know it wasn't the Cummins by listening to it run though. This tractor had 4200 hours, tires and duals had about 35-40% tread left. Good shape and good runner. It was not the red stripe tractor. It sold for $9000.00. I hope this helps you somewhat. I am from Southern Minnesota.

The tractor is a 1977. It has had to been repainted. The cab interiors on those Whites fell apart years ago. They did not hold up very well. So I would bet that when they put the Cummins in it they repainted it and installed a new cab interior. It also is not a Series three that did not come out until 82-83.

The biggest problem with the White 2-135 was the Hurcules motor. They did not hold up well and are very high priced to overhaul. I did a neighbors at 3000 hours and the over haul kit was $5000, ten years ago.

So the Cummins motor will make it worth more. Factory original ones will bring that 9-11K. This one is worth a little more with the Cummins. I would say 12-15K.

Remember that these tractors are not common. The parts are high through AGCO. Plus prices seem to have soften the last month or two around me here for non popular stuff. I would be cautious. They where not too good with the Hurcules motor. Real heavy for the horsepower. Slow road gear too. I saw a pretty good JD 4430 sell Sat. for $13,500. That is down from just the spring.

I would disagree with your assessment that a 2-135 is not common. Parts are also not that expensive, no worse than any other make or model. The good thing about them was that they were built heavy to withstand many years of use, and other than the Herc. they were near bulletproof. If it were on an auction, I would not be afraid to bid 10-12k.
