Guys what is some of your issues good or bad with the late longs? The early ones 445 460 had some issues.

Had a 2610 for 10 years and had no issues with it. All Long tractors had weak three point but other than that it was a good tractor.

Stay clear of the 680 that was one of the last models Long had. I've read about lots of problems with the engine counter balance and crank shaft. Bad design. Montana sold some of those 680 models under their name and number too.

hi i owned a 1986 long 510DTC.good tractor bought it new , my brother bought it from me , still runnig strong. we had some general maintence issuses small at that. it was good tractor still working.idont know much about the newer models or years but i had a good 1. just my .02cts

What is with the sudden interest in Long tractors??? Several posting the lasy few days/weeks. They have a low resale for many reasons. The biggest is that the company is no longer in business. Parts can be a nightmare to get on some models. The second one is that some models where great tractors and others where junk. So you really need to know which is which to not get skinned.

When you guys see a tractor that seems to be real cheap and may not have many hours on it. THINK ABOUT why it is being sold. Also why is it twenty years old with only 700 hours on it. MAYBE they had so much trouble with it that they are dumping it. MAYbe they had to let it set all of the time trying to find parts to keep it running.

I love odd old equipment to collect and fool with but I don"t want to have to use it for my serious work. A Model T car is fun to drive in a parade but not to work everyday.

The only LONG I have had experience with is a 445. My Grandfather has this one and I grew up using it for various haying activities.

He bought it new in the late 70's. We took a porta-band to the steering arms several times to take out play (open up the slots). Week low end power (FIAT engine?), funky two-range, one stick shifter that you learn to "palm" into 1st gear (rapped knuckles). Poor steering, weak lift, slow hydraulics, poor power band, just not my favorite tractor.
