Sundays are down days here..No work unless harvesting........ I tedded my hay and did a few things. Wife is away at a seminar and I am bored... Can lay around drinking beer (don't encourage me), or make the most of the free time (quietly).
So, if I use up some junk I have laying around I can make storage space for another 5600 bales of hay in the barn. I have on hand 2 1/4 by 3 1/2 pine. Span is 10ft. Spaced 3ft apart with a 8x8 beem every 10 ft. Floor will be 3/4 inch pine slabs. 10 x 10 area will hold 1 ton at most but closer to 1500 pounds of hay bales. Think I am OK?

Thanks, Dave

PS 20% chance of rain today so I tedded......p!ssing the rain down now.......... Beer's looking pretty good

I'm having trouble understanding your question. If you have 8x8 beam every 3' supporting the joists and the joints were on 16" centers it would work. If your spanning 10' with the joists it would hold for a little while but you really need min. 2x10's on 16" centers to span 10'. What would happen is little by little the floor would sag until it would fall.

put a couple of posts under the floor joist as you are filling it
then when it gets so empty they will fall back out
that way posts are only in the way when needed to hold the hay up
rest of the time clear space under the mow
