O.T. Paying respects

For the second weekend in a row, my town was awash with American flags and rumbling with the roar of Patriot Rider bikes. Last weekend the town was saying goodbye in a memorial service for Chief Petty Officer Rob Reeves; this week the service was for Lt. Cmdr. Jason Kelsall. Both were local guys, classmates at a local high school, and best buddies. Both were SEALS, and they died together when their chopper went down in a dung hill on the other side of the earth. Seems to me the odds of that playing out that way are pretty long, but that's the way it went.

Lt. Cmdr. Kelsall will be buried at Arlington; CPO Reeves will be buried at sea per his wishes.
 
That is kind of rough for a town. Too bad it had to happen. I think this mess will end up like Vietnam. We will pack and come home and things will go on as usual over there. Only thing different, a few of the thugs will be missing. Stan
 

Can't be easy..... Was going thru the casualty reports and saw my last name. Turned out being a distant cousin (2nd or 3rd?) from across the river....
Hard to believe it's been going on almost 10 years.................
 
Long time. Afgan war is 9.9 years and counting. Iraq is tied with Vietnam now at 8.4 years and soon will exceed it. WW 2 was 3.7 years . Korea 3.1 years. WW 1 only 1.6 years. The only war that lasted longer was with the plains indians war, 1850 to 1890. I hope that stays our longest war.
 
Back in WW 1 and WW2 our government thought the way to win was to kill as many of the other side as possible. Now we just pussyfoot around when we have the capability to kill everyone of them. Remember Hiroshama and Nagasaki We need another
Harry Truman who would rather see their team dead than ours.
