Parts fit better when correct. RANT

Well I now have new to me a 1990 GMC S-15 blazer. Well if needed a drivers side front drive axle. So the parts guy gives me a part number GM-8033 which is not the correct part due to the flange that bolts to the diff. is to big and the axle is 3 inches to long to boot. The correct one is a GM-8077 if I remember right but any how when I first go the one I told the guy that it did not look right and he said no it is the correct one. Guess next time I will look a lot closer and be sure since I did way more work then I needed to do just to find it would not fit

I have run into that too .

I do use Rock Auto.com now to get a reference for part needed to get a pic of what I need and an original part number and cross numbers. Helps me .

I seek out good parts countermen/women. If I get burned more than once I don't use him again. Several are on my list. I usually use an old school parts man who hasn't failed me yet. His parts are a little higher but it's worth it.

ever use rockauto.com??? Quick delivery and stretches repair bucks a lot farther. Especially with 4 buck a gallon gas running to the store. I usually get stuff here in 4-5 days.

I have checked them out ,but usually find stuff cheaper elsewhere.

am-autoparts or techchoiceparts for air conditioning.

Ya understand that and that is where the problem is he is or is that was one of the best in the store but guess now that he is a grand father he is slipping a bit LOL. Believe me I will give him a hard time later today.

I had a '91 Isuzu and had the same problem. My machanic tried three axles before finding the correct fit.
All looked alike but slightly different diameters. The manufactures changed spec.s in the middle of the model year.
Twenty years later one parts store may have all three parts in stock or three stores will each have a different issue.

I never have that problem in the local store but then most of them know me and those that do not learn fast that I know a good bit about things and not just cars or trucks but engines etc in general

Rock Auto sent me the wrong parts twice.Their specs are too thin.I ordered spring hangers.Took a while to get the bed off, went over 30 days , they wont take the wrong parts back. The rear hangers were right, front hangers were for a 2wd.Hangers were from china. Got the hangers from a Ford dealer, cost more and fit right.2wd uses a 2 and a half inch wide spring,4wd uses a 3 inch wide spring.3 local parts men handed me the wrong part.Hangers were used on 1980 to 96 4wd and 1980 to 97 F250.Common part, high failure rate from road salt here.Another thing Rock Auto does, shipping parts from different locations.Runs the shipping cost up.

Yep, that's why I quit using them for the most part. they do carry or have access to some parts that are hard to find. That's all I'll use them for.

Most of the guys/gals working at parts houses these days know little to nothing about vehicles or the parts they're selling. They only know how to punch a few keys on the keyboard. I often have to bring the old part with me to make sure I get the right one as many times the one they hand over the counter is wrong..
