New Idea Transplanter

Never knew new idea made a transplanter, learn something every day.

Around here most every old barn has a one row 3pt Holland or even an old Powell in the corner catch'n dust but never seen a new idea. Last local consignment sale had a one row Holland in great shape sold for $75. Ain't much demand for them these days.

Oh plow boy you are showing your age. We used a New Idea until 1950 when we bought an M John Deere then got a mounted Ells. Both drug you in the dirt, you set the plants directly in the ground as the dirt goes up your pant legs. New Idea was the best setter made until the automatic or finger setters were made. That was too much wasn't it LOL

Set many a row of cabbage with New Holland
Had four one rows mounted on a tool bar to set 4 rows at a time, two people per row.

Yeah, I know I am young pup but there ain't many folks around my age who have set a whole crop with a string and a "cedar setter". Makes my back and legs hurt still think'n bout it. The summer I was 14 granddad picked up some extra base and me and him set about 2 acres. Pretty bad when pull'n plants was the "fun" part. :) I have to say the blister was about healed up on my hand by cut'n time. :)
