Whatcha Callit...

I am looking for a part, not sure what to call it. Basically, its a reverse turnbuckle, as in a "threaded rod" with right and left hand threads, respectively. Needs to be 3/8 inch threads, approx 8-12 inches long. McMaster Carr comes the closest to what I need, but would like more thread length in comparison to overall length. Thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

I gather you need the r&l rods, not the center turnbuckle. Buy the assembly, throw away the middle, and weld the ends of the rod together.

So you need a threaded rod 8-12 inches long with right and left threads. Buy both and weld to a nut?
That way you have something to put your wrench on. Check with your local car part store or tractor supply and see if they can help.
Either that or cut your own with thread die.

I actually need something pretty close to the picture, but would prefer to have something with about half as much "middle", and twice as much thread on each side. I've tried Deere, NAPA, local hardware, etc. with not much luck. It is for an old Deere combine, and of course it is now obsolete. I guess I'll have to make it.

I really didn't look, just assumed! Youknow what happens when you assume! Anyway, I think someone sells them, if not Mc-C, try MSC, or Enco. you could always cut up a turnbuckle, and weld the female threaded portions to the length desired.
