Transportation damage :(

Hey guys! So I just had a 1935 D delivered from Canada and the trucking company didn't secure the tractor properly. While in transit it rolled backwards into a large load of wire spools. The left rear fender is totaled along with the operators platform. I'm in process of figuring out how much it's going to cost to repair so I can file a claim with the trucking company. My question is how much would some of you guys charge for labor to remove and install two new fenders if this happened to you?

I would charge whatever the John Deere Dealership shop labor estimate would charge. Seriously. Just call your local John Deeere and tell them you want an estimate. Not money out of your pocket. I notice you mention just labor, why not have them buy you two replacement fenders as well?

Thx guys I'll get an estimates from our local JD dealer. I'm also having them pay for new fenders from Detwilers.

Remember, you are not going to be dealing with the trucking company, it will be with their insurance company. In my experience, neither the insurance companies or the small claim court judge recognizes sweat equity, and when they do it is at minium wage. I would pay some restoration guy I trusted to make it right then present that bill. I don't mean to upset anyone, but when you are after damages that someone caused you, the court/insurance company wants to hear from a "expert", not your opinion of the $ value those dammages were.

Figure out a resonable repair cost and talk to the trucking company. They might be willing to settle, going to the insurance company will raise their rates.

Mrkwpattom did you take pictures on delivery ? Also did you sign manafest clear or note on manafest of damages? You should call the trucking company right away you have only so many days to file claim for damages.

Get professional real estimates, & let someone else fix it! If you try to do it yourself the insurance is going to accuse you every way possible of trying to rob them! Is the trucking company from Canada? Then it will be even worse!

Yes, I took pictures as the tractor sat in the trailer and they are clear the transportation caused the damage. I also noted on the bill of laden the tractor was damaged. The trucking company and the broker were both noticed the day after the delivery.

Get a real professional estimate from a local shop.

Look at your copy of the Bill Of Lading and see if you see a Limitations of Liability clause on it in small print.
If so and you did not buy the extra insurance you are fixing to find out what this Limitations of Liability clause means.

Good you have covered your self and have the proof it was damaged on arrival. With this you shouldn't have a problem but the insurance may drag its feet. I didn't ask before but did the driver sign your note on bill of laden? Sound like you have covered your self good. I drove for a commercial carrier 38 years sounds like you have all you need to cover your self.
