OT Hail damage near York Nebraska

Had a friend of the family's memorial service today in York. Between York and Seward there are several miles of hail damaged corn! You can see the dirt thru the still standing tall stalks! I had not heard of such an event. Can anybody tell me about it?

We had hail come through Eastern Iowa earlier this summer. I was lucky
and had less than 1% damage. Hail can completely ruin a crop.

Must have been very localized.

I live half way between Seward and Milford on the north side of I-80 and I haven't heard of major hail damage in the area. In fact, I had dinner this evening with the fellow who leases our farm ground. He lives a couple of miles west of Seward and he didn't mention anything.

However, the area around Utica is notorious for hail damage. My wife comes from that neighborhood, and she remembers hail busting windows out of their house.

Curiously, at my place 15-20 miles east, hail insurance for crops carries the lowest premium in the state.

I'll keep my ears tuned to local gossip tomorrow.
