Its actualy quite a good "deal" I"ve done it with good success, the right single wheel rides in the furrow while the duals get great traction up on the unplowed earth land. I didnt have as much slippage and she kept a good course when I plowed that way. Then to take it even farther, run duals on BOTH sides with an on land hitch plow.

Used a Dual on the Left side of my WD-45 with 4x14"...worked real well..
When using the Dual, I moved the Lt Rear wheel in, from the normal "Wide" position and added the Dual..on the AC..
Always used Duals on the WD-45's when discing anyway..

traction . We used to leave the left dual on the SMTA when we plowed a lot of the time. Then only had 1 to put back on when working ground.

Thats was a very common practice back in the 60"s and 70"s.When I plowed with the AC 190 XT I had a semi mount 5 /14" AC plow and I used the same XT to disc with.I only had to remount 1 right side dual Tire and then go to discing. Heres one of the onland types with a big 7 bottom semi mount plow.

We used to to that, the single went in the dead furrow. That was the situation of the MM G1000 and Case 1030, the JD 4020 had singles. Could be wrong but I always thought it was just to much work to take off the left dual and then reinstall everything latter.

Unless you have a on-land hitch like the one pictured below you could only run one tire in the plow furrow. The furrow side usually pulled better anyway. The tire on good dirt would pull more than the land tire that had trash and grass to slip on. So you put the dual on the left or land side for additional traction.

The on-land tire needs extra weight compared to the furrow tire. This is because:
1. the in-furrow tire has better soil conditions to bite into, and
2. the tractor is tilted towards the furrow, shifting some tractor weight to the furrow wheel.

Plow manufacturers recommended moving one or two 140 pound wheel weights from the in furrow wheel to the on-land wheel to equalize the traction. A dual tire weights 300 to 700 pounds. It was less work to leave the left hand dual in place rather than move two wheel weights.
