Where to visit when in the States?

Hello
My brother and I are planning a trip to the States in early-mid October. So far we are starting in Boston (family there) then heading over to Toronto (Niagara falls and friends in Toronto) then to Millbank, Canada (a nice dealer there we want to see) then down to NE Indiana to see some tractor folks. Then back to Boston.

Does anyone know of any big shows going on at that time in the general area we will be in?
We are interested in Classic JDs mainly, 1960+.

Thanks
Peter

By mid October most of the shows have already gone! That time of year in Northern, IN they can have heavy frost, & might even get what they call "Lake Effect Snow". Hideous amounts of snowfall caused by cold air rolling over lakes Michigan, & Erie which still have warm water. Mid October is still early; But not terribly ab-normal. & Buffalo, NY or somewhere in the area last year had something like 80 - 100 inches of snow for the year! It probably started snowing in early October! I am sure You can find weather statistics on the net.

Forgot to mention! If You have come that far You should continue another 1/2 days drive west to Moline, IL. John Deere HQ's with several JD museums, + The US Combine, & Planter assembly plants. Lots to see there, & most of it indoors; which means heated, & free of snow!

Deerfield Fair, takes place in southern NH, Sept.29-Oct. 2. lots of old tractors on display as well as demonstrations of old implements such as stationary baler. Two days of tractor pulls. Sandwich fair central NH. Oct.8-10 tractor pulls Sat. and Sun. similar but smaller than Deerfield. Topsfield fair in MA just north of Boston, Sept. 30th-Oct. 10 Tractor pulls evening of the 8th.

I hope you realize that they turn off the water to The Falls starting the first of October in order to save on the water bill.

Tourism in Canada slows after Labour Day Sept
5th and grinds/freezes to a halt after
Thanksgiving on Oct 10th.
Niagara Falls and CN Tower are year around. You
may miss the "Maid of the Mist" rides. And the new
Edge Walk at 1168ft where they let you dangle over
the side of the tower. Blyth is holding their 50th
steam & Antique equipment show Sept 9th-11th.
Millbank is a town I used to drive through
twice a week for years. For one of the better
meals in your life. Stop at this Amish restaurant
that has a web site? http://www.annamaes.ca/
Millverton has a new pub & bistro called
Beartoozies which is worth the visit.
Be very careful & polite at the border. Canada
customs make up the rules as they go. They are
real keen on busting people possessing pepper
spray, mace, alcohol, tobacco, drugs prescription
or not. Anything in any way related to any sort
of weapon and they will freak.
A couple of weeks ago Canada Customs threw a
66yr old GrandMother in the slammer for 12 days.
They thought a jar of used motor oil in the
vehicle was heroin oil. No apologies either.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Didnt know about niagara being 'turned off' but we were going to be passing so thought we'd stop off.

Carrying on to Moline seems like a good idea, doesn't look like there are many shows going on in the timeframe we will be there ( 4th-18th Oct, of which we will spend a week driving around). Not to worry though, think we have quite a bit to be kept busy with.

Thanks

I only found the one museum and small at that after the closure of the old dealership, Would you tell me about the other things as far as JD museums. Thanks Bill

Don't forget to take a look at the parade of forclosed homes, closed and abandoned businesses and lines of people at food banks and homeless shelters if you should happen to come to Michigan.

The heck it doesn't. In October 2008, we had snow in southern Michigan. Like 10 inches. In mid October. Our frost free date here is Oct 5. We usually have some snow by late October. It may not last, but we do get it.

If you are in Kitchener / New Berlin for their Oktoberfest. They throw a party that lasts a week.

Don't overlook the so called "flyover" states, there's many things you will see there that you can not find anywhere else.
