Was into mowing bout an hour and motor started cutting out.Got back to garage and it quit.Sparks good ,new fuel filter.Pulled out line off fuel pump.turned over motor, not much fuel coming out.Dont know anything about these kind of pumps. How do they work?Should it be really pumping out the fuel.Dealers closed, anyone know what they might cost,or are they repairable.Does this sound like the right route to go?

Thanks
Stan

what engine do you have? Some Kohler and some Briggs engines appear to use the pulsing of the crankcase pressure to make the diaphram fuel pump operate only 3 or 4 screws hold it together just don't loose the springs inside.

That JD 262 has a 17 hp Kawasaki single cylinder motor. The fuel pump uses the change in crankcase volume to pulse the fuel pump diaphram.

I have a small fuel tank off of an old tiller that I use as a test tank. I just hold it above the carburetor so it can gravity feed. If it runs fine then check out the fuel supply system. My son just soldered a fitting in a steel coffee can.

1) Remove fender deck and look at the fuel line. Your mower is getting old enough it could be dry rotted/cracked.

2) The fuel suction fitting in the top of the fuel tank can corrode shut. With the fender deck off you can just pull it out of the fuel tank. It is held in by a rubber grommet. This is a good time to flush the fuel tank out completely.

3) If all is good to here then check the fuel shut off valve. I have had them get plugged with grass/dirt.

4) You then should have good fuel flow to the fuel pump. IF it still is not working. Remove the fuel pump. Check the rubber hose that goes to the engine block. If it is cracked it will not make the fuel pump work. If that hose is good then th fuel pump is bad.

The fuel pump number is AM109212 List $52.00.

Check the other things out first. The fuel pumps have been pretty reliable. You might just have a little problem.
