I just want to say THANK YOU to all of you that replied to my post. I'm going to go and look at the service entrance wires to see what gauge they are, then I will try the multi tester on the start up of a/c. I have a 200amp service (breakers)thats only 15 yr old. I'm also in the middle of running new 2/2/4 triplex out to the garage to add a sub panel out there. Lastly I spoke with my HVAC guy and he's going to come out this fall and look at the outside unit to see if it needs to be replaced. That will be $1500.00 I hope not to spend. Thanks Again to all. I didn't commrnt on your other post, but if it is a HPS light, they are very-very touchy after a few years use to any surge. The 70s and 100s not so much, but the 150s and bigger are super bad.I have 400A service to the house and another 400A service to bins and buildings(same Trans.100KVA)and had HPS lights(3-4 yrs old) cycle when something kicks on on the other meter.I have to replace bulbs(3-4yrs)and sometimes the whole light after 5 yrs or less.So if they are HPS lights look at their age first.Good luck and hope that is all it is.

Likely, the voltage drop upon AC startup will be so "quick" you won't see it on the meter, but the light will still notice it!

Bill, My A/C is 11 years old and the motor contactor, the relay that turns the outside condensor on, had to be replaced. That could be your problem too. The electrical contacts on the contactor were burnt to where no electrical contact was being made. My theory is why replace something if it can be repaired. They make a hard start kit to help old compressors get going. It is a capacitor that connects in parallel to the run capacitor on the compressor. 20 years ago the wholsale cost was $12. Two wires to connect it. Very easy to install. Try one. It won't hurt to install one on your A/C, even if it doesn't need one. Let me know if it works.
