Another Parts Rant

Ordered a water pump pulley from A&I for my 77 since my old one had a 3 inch chunk missing on the old one. It came quickly, but on the package I saw it said replacement for "White", which was my first clue that something was wrong. I opened it up, lo and behold it was a thick walled machined pulley, not a thin sheet steel one like the original. I grabbed the pulley that runs the generator that has to slide inside of it. The new pulley has too small of an ID hole for the generator pulley. How hard is it to send someone the right part the first time? Especially when I pay $100 for a lousy pulley on a common tractor like a 77. It's a genuine crock, we could really use the tractor to run augers right now. I think I may become a parts salesman just so people don't have to deal with morons who can't get the right part the first time.

It may have not been the person who ordered it. Could be a number of things. I've seen wrong part in correctly numbered box.

You are probably right, I should have cooled off before I posted. I'm just very unhappy because we ended up using our 7410 JD To run a 7" auger. We may have to do it again tomorrow because I don't have the correct parts. If I payed $100 for something nearly identical to what I can find in a hardware store for $10 except that it has a dish, it would be nice to get the right part. Oh well, I 'll get it sorted out, I'm just amazed at how often people get the wrong parts.

Good thing you didnt buy it from Emissons Farm Equipment in Smithville Arkansas youd have no part and no money

it's getting harder and harder to get the right part to the customer Past 5 years with water wells and pumps, tanks has been unbeliveable. don't get catalogs from the suppliers anymore, all done with compukers, companys move to china driffen part#, that company goes broke nother company builds it driffen part# supliers find it cheaper but it's only a LITTLE driffent, BUT it's cheaper! Driffent part# then you get 10 people in there pokeing keyboards I don't how we get anything.

A while back I ordered an idler wheel for my AC El Tigre from the JD dealer that also deals in Arctic Cat. I went on the dealer's website, got the part number of the part I needed, called in and ordered it. I called a few days later and asked if my part was in. I was told that "we accidentally ordered the wrong part, the correct one should be in in a few days." I gave them the part number, how can they get it wrong? I find it annoying how apathetic people are today.

there's a good chance that your going to have to buy
a used one , I have never sold one of those pulleys
but it appears that in A-I's catalog the DRAWING of
it (not a picture) is a cast unit not a pressed
steel pulley . Your dealer could have called A-I's
tech dept to find out first !

I collect tractors. The first thing that I did was to set up a machine shop so I could make my own parts if I needed to. I have found that even if I don't need to it is still cheaper to make some of them instead of buying them and they are better made.

well--why dont you look to used first? there are alot parts for sale from good people.
whats the big deal putting a 7410 on an auger?
man--wish i had your problems.........

Have looked used, put up ads on kijiji and asked around. Being without a driver's license limits the things I can do. Even if I do find a used one, it will likely be just as worn out as mine and break eventually too. I'd rather spend the money now and have it last another 60 years.
The big issue with putting the 7410 on the auger was that it was supposed to be pulling wagons and there was a truck waiting to be loaded, and that is an issue. If you think you've got problems, come help us one day. You'll be unpleasantly surprised. We have about 12 tractors, only three currently work as they should.

went to my local New Holland dealer few months back, needed 6 rollabar bearings for my #55 rake. Found out that weekend they were too small and were actually for a #255 rake. Had been a new parts guy. When I took them back, the 10% sale was over and the correct ones cost $30 more each. Of course I insisted on the sale price since that wasn't my error. They agreed.

This what you need? I have one that came off spare 77 engine. If so send me an email with your address and I will sent ya one for shipping cost

It is many times not the dealership or parts mans fault. The companies are reducing inventory. Some where they may have decided to sub the old part to a newer number/part. That may have worked in most applications but not yours.

Try to put a new wiper arm on a JD 14T square baler. You have to grind a relief on the cast knotter support frame.

You may have to get a used one and have it rebuilt. That way you would have the correct pulley.

Ive been trying to replace the spring hangers on my Ford pick up.Ordered full set, front hangers were wrong.Took a while to get the box off.Saw that the parts were wrong, called the co.They wont take parts back and refund because its been over 30 days.Tried to get parts local, was handed the wrong parts 3 times. The 4wd has 3 inch wide springs,2 wheel drive has 2 and a half wide springs. Finally called a Ford parts man.He said I know what you need and will set them on the counter so you can get them if Im gone to lunch. They cost more but I finally got the right parts. The road salt ruins many trucks here.I cant afford to replace the truck so Im fixing it.The 80 to 96 4wd uses the same hangers.I found that the F250 uses the same hangers 80 to 97. Told the Ford parts man I wasnt sure I had enough cash to buy 2 hangers. He gave me the wholesale price,I had just enough. Most places use computers rather than parts books.Went to get a small acetylene bottle, they gave me an empty bottle,The second one was a leaker.I called a shop where I had bought CO2 in the past,They told me they werent taking on new customers because of the acetylene shortage.I told them I needed a small MC bottle. No go.

That happened to us on our 4010 diesel a couple of years ago with the water pump. Our tractor had been shipped from the factory with what I am assuming is a front cultivator support torqued to the head. The pump the dealer had would have worked on our tractor had that bracket not been there. I did not want to get into either un-torquing the head or rebuilding the old water pump. The dealer had the replacement pump on hand and was suppose to fit 4010 and early 4020 tractors while the kit had to be ordered. Anyways we waited around a day while a kit was shipped from another location and then the shop pressed the new bearing and new impeller on the old pump.
