stuck cylinder

We've had a cool wave (it's only 100) so I thought I would put the Horn-draulic loader on the Farmall M. I got it when I got the tractor but have no idea when it was last on or used.

It went on OK but one of the cylinders is stuck. They were both about half extended and that one will not extend or retract (gravity). The other works just fine (there is one hydraulic line with a T in it at the bottom of the stuck cylinder). I pulled the vent plug and there was a bit of air whoosh out, but that was it. I tried beating on it, working the loader up and down with the other cylinder, etc. I'm sure it will have to be rebuilt, but how do I get it unstuck to see?

Can I put some penetrant of some kind down the vent hole? Do I take it off and pull it apart with the tractors?

The ram is in the cylinder straight, it isn't bent, and it looks really good through the vent plug hole.

What next (other than keep praying for rain)??

Sorry, must have left that part of of my post - heat got to me!

That's when I realized I had a problem. One cylinder extends just fine, the other stays put. Those loaders are pretty shaky afairs so it just twists it. It's not that one is just ahead of the other, it it really stuck.

I tried forcing it to retract with the come-a-long, but no dice. I got in the bucket and jumped up and down, no dice.

I guess I am a lightweight.

I would put some ATF in the vent hole. Fill it up if you can then leave it sit a day or 2. If you can get it off the loader that would be even better. Then after a day or 2 hook it up to the hyd system off the loader no load on it and slowly apply hyd pressure to it. Be sure you point that vent away from you and stuff you do not want to get covered in ATF and you may find it pops free. The hyd system can/work push a lot harder then you can with any com-a-long

Just hook up the stuck cylinder and plug off the good one. When you put the full pressure on it will come loose.
