Empty Shelves

I have noticed empty shelf space on several different grocery items. Is this just something local or has anyone else noticed the same thing?

Was just there yesterday and it was stocked full. Earlier there was a discussion on here where I asked about the reported increase in groceries. I discussed it with the wife again and apparently the way, and what she buys hasn't changed that much. Milk was $2.49/gal. Butter $2.69/lb.

Never heard of em. I hit the Mennonite market every thursday. Milk was 4.02/gal last week! Can't beat their lunchmeat prices, 1.99lb for cooked ham, 3.29 for hard salami. Are you sure your not talking half gallon?

I work in groceries at the local Wal-Mart, and we can't get it in fast enough or keep it on the shelves.

If I had to guess, I would say it has something to do with it being the first of the month, and the people who get paid to do nothing cleaning out the shelves at taxpayers expense. Stores are an absolute zoo around here at the beginning or the month.

Are the shelves empty-empty or is there a row of goods right across the front with nothing behind the row?
If the first then probbly just nor restocked yet if the second better start looking for a new grocery because it's a good probability that store's about to close.

That dosent bother me as much as the 30% price increases and the smaller containers Ive seen on the shelves.Coffee prices are going up fast. The 12 oz pound is everywhere.Butter has moved up 30%.Wife saw sweet corn at 6 bucks a dozen at a farmers market.Summer squash selling at 2.00 a pound. This makes a small squash cost 2 bucks.Weve sold them for 50 cents each on our roadside table.Potatoes at 1.29 a pound.Cider vinegar 2.59 a gallon in one store,3.79 in another. We made a trip to get some truck parts and pick a few basic groceries. The groceries didnt cover the bottom of the cart.44 bucks.Empty shelves just mean people are buying seasonal supplies like canning items. Its strange that you can buy pork and chicken for less than vegetables now.

Well I dont know what the problem is right now,but having hauled a lot of food it could be this.Since the price of fuel is so high, trucks are going to haul stuff that pays a fuel surcharge. They cant afford not to.So,like when I was hauling,I would try hard to get a load with a fuel surcharge, and if no surcharge,Id leave the load set on the dock. You cant run a truck for nothing,or less than nothing, and stay in business.
What the whole problem with everything, and why prices are higher is,most of it is because of the price of fuel.Things arent going to get any better, only worse, until the price of fuel comes down,if it ever does.As the price of fuel goes up,like it did in 2008,it crashes the economy and raises the price of everything else eventually, which it did.If there are empty shelves at your store,it will probably get worse. Also they may have jacked the price up on the items on that shelf so high that the store refused to buy it.They dont make much per box of stuff and if they think they cant sell it,they might quit handling it.Or maybe they just are rearranging the store.
Aldis is the cheapest place to get milk here and its about 3.50 per gallon.

Figure this. 1 load of macaroni in 1 pd. boxes equal to 44400 boxes in a 46000 lb. load. fuel surcharge of $116.00 to haul 600 miles. Store increases sale price by .19 cents to cover fuel surcharge. Actually increases recovery to $8436. Who are they trying to fool.
In The business and see it every day.

Just in Krogers this afternoon and no empty shelves and gallon of whole milk or chocklet was 2.69 per gal, Large eggs .99.
