Re: Bush Hog

(quoted from post at 00:02:10 08/03/11) It has been called that here ,for as long as i can remember. It's about time everbody got it right.

Exactly my same thoughts. From now on unless you are actually using a "BRUSH HOG", why not just say CUTTING BRUSH?

From now on, unless you are actually using a Xerox copier, why not say "photocopying" rather than "xerox...?"

I built my own machine over 10 years and painted it blue to match Ford tractor. Well...painted it blue except for the red gearbox. Thus...my machine is properly called Red-Head Brush Pig and is so labeled with welding bead,

in our neck of the woods,, your """ shredding""" or using a shredder... bush hog is a name of a company that makes disks, renovators and lots of other expensive stuff.

we go out and shred the pasture. The dealer tells me its really a rotary cutter, but its still a shredder.

In my part of the world (KY) shredding meant running cut and shocked corn through a corn shredder that snapped and shucked the ears placing them in a wagon. The stalk and blades were shredded and blown into the barn loft for winter feed for cattle. Not very good feed, but beat a snowball. Joe

I was in the local NH dealer one time and a guy came in and asked the owner (long time NH/Ford guy) about the used bobcat out front. Owner said "I don't have a used bobcat, don't even have any new ones". Guy said so the bobcat out front here ain't for sale? We don't have any bobcats on the place, we do have a few NH skid steers. I don't know what a skid steer is but I really need to buy a bobcat, guess I will go some where else if that one is not for sale.

Owner lost a sale just because it ****ed him off that many folks call all skid steers a bobcat.

In my "mind"s eye", "brush hogging" gives me a specific scene of a rotary cutter doing the job.

"Cutting brush" could be anything from "bush hogging" to cutting brush with pruning shears, an axe or even an old fashioned scythe with a "brush" blade.

Geeez, why did I even allow myself to become involved in this crazy discussion? LOL
