What is this?

Can someone tell me what this is?

I don't have my son's tractor handy, but it looks a little like the arm on the steering shaft of a farmall F-20 or regular that steers the cultivator. Have never seen one off the trator though, but the curved end looks like that.

I don't know the exact name but, on my Farmall F-20 that piece is bolted to an exposed part of the steering column, (this is a narrow front),it connects to a piece of linkage on the mounted cultivator to help steer the cultivator teeth around plants if you get too close, (instead of backing up or destroying part of the row of crops), the outer "wings" are for it to reengage the linkage after you have pulled a rope to disengage it to make a turn at the end of the row.

it mounts on the steering shaft in the bolster on an h or farmall m. it is used on the shifting gang mounted cultivator. there is a little insert in the grill that must be removed and this mounts to the shaft. you need to drop the bolster shaft to install or remove them. i have a couple hanging on a nail in the barn.

whoops, that one you dont need to drop the shaft. gotta see if i can get a pic of one for you.

found it , out in the gangbox with some other goodies.

You're right except the part about dropping the bolster shaft....you don't have to drop it, just remove the capscrews, place the key thing on the lever in the groove in the front of the shaft and put the back in place, insert the capscrews and bolt 'er up. there's another part that goes around the bolster shaft too that carries the latcher gimmick that steers the cultivator from this lever thing. I've cultivated a lot of acres with this type of cultivator on a '41 Farmall H, but never really liked it all that much....too much trouble relatching it after turning around at the ends of the rows and the thing is a "pistol" to steer on sidehills, The newer '50 H we got had rigid gang cultivators and they were much, much better.

Looks a little like puffed rice but the color is a little to dark maybe like someone burnt it while boiling it. Seams there was a breakfast cereal that looked like that years ago. I think it was called Honey Crisp.

had a senior moment there dukester. i took the one off my 48 m, and remember dropping the bolster shaft. after looking at the bracket, i remember the reason i dropped the bolster shaft out was to replace the bushings and bearings.
