"Which Detroit engine is it? 3-53 or 3-71?"
Don't know for sure don't know where the numbers are and he wasn't home when I took these.

Roy,

Simplest way is to look at valve covers ,

53 has screws around the outside like a ford

or chevy, 71 has either knobs (handwheels )

or small bolt down thru the center on top.

That looks like a 53 as I don't see the

knobs on top.Also t stat housing and blower

look like 53 .
