Can some of you guys give me advice on putting a 8" dozer blade on a 100HP tractor? Looking at a rig made for my tractor, question is will it work well leveling out and filling in old orchard stump holes and regrading swales etc?
Will I be disappointed in performance? Should I go buy a JD 450 right from the get go?

Have had an 8' Waldon on the front of a 4020 (diesel/wfe/dual 15.5s) for better than 30 years. As long as you remember that it's NOT a dozer, they work great. If you try to push trees/brush, you'll beat the 'hail' out of the hood/muffler/air cleaner/screens/radiator, etc. btdt

Thurlow, you hit the nail right on the head. It will NOT make a "dozer" out of your tractor, and so long as you remember that, you will get along just fine.

May not get the job done as quickly as you would with a real dozer, but you will get it done.

Does it tilt? If not, you won't be happy with it. Lots of monkey business involved in getting grade the way you want it if blade won't tilt.

Also, unless it's loose dirt, you'd be much better off with a dozer, especially if you've got much to do.

A FRT END LOADER AND A LARGE BLADE ON THE BACK WILL DO ALOT OF WORK.

I'D RATHER HAVE THE LOADER AS YOU CAN DO MORE WITH IT.

i had a john deere 450c with a 6 way blade. i used it to push silage and corn a little bit because the clutch was out on one tractor and the the motor was out on another and i used to to push some stone and do a little logging but it was a real great machine. i sold it though because i didnt have a winch and i could find one for it so i thought maybe i could find one with a winch but no luck yet. it probably would be in you best interested to find a dozer.

One thought to keep in mind, is that you can buy a dozer blade for 500.00. Finding a dozer that runs for 500.00 might be harder to do.

I think you'd probably be better off buying a proper dozer right from the start... but there again... it depends on how much you have to do with it, what you've got to spend... and wether or not you'd plan on selling it later. A dozer can also be an expensive heap of trouble if you get a bad one...

Ditto on what the others said. Another thing to add; we had a Case 580B tractor with a front blade. It worked OK for light work but you couldn't really cut a grade with it. When the wheels would start to spin and dig down the front of the tractor would raise slightly, then you would move forward a little further until the tires started digging again. In short you would end up with a real mess trying to do grade work. For what you're doing I would recomend a loader and a good box blade.
