Preservation of seed

I have more rye than I'm going to use this year. Is it necessary to keep that seed from freezing during the winter for use as cover in future years?

Rye seed is fussy.

Seems it is tough to keep it more than one year before it loses it's viability.

I planted some that was combined dry, stored in a dry place, that same fall.It grew great.

Tryed to plant the rest one year later and not one out of a hundred seeds grew.

Don't know why but two year old seed seems to be a problem with rye.

I had that experience too. I thought maybe it was because it froze. Good advice I guess is to get it used up in a year.
Thanks
