Case 1070 problems

I have a 1978 case 1070 tractor. The tractor would start but only idle rough maybe 450 rpms. I could get no RPM out of it. I changed filters, put new fuel in it still no luck. I had the injection pump gone thru and rebuilt, put new gromets on fuel lines still no luck, I put new injectors in it and finally tore apart and checked the gears and timing marks were all fine with engine at TDC. Any ideas??

Take the line off the priming pump that goes back to the fuel tank. Fuel should flow full stream out of this line when removed from pump. Does it, my money says it doesn't.

The quick fix is to pop the cap off your fuel tank and blow air back that line. Blowing out the pick-up line will get you going, but eventually whatever caused the blockage will do it again. I have a 970 with this issue, every year or two I have to carry a portable air tank out into the field to rescue myself.

The right fix is to clean your tank.

lack of fuel i say.
LP shot maybe or plugged screen/tubing somewhere.
Tank outlet plugged up

Hey delta, I just come in from baling with my 1070 thinking the whole time how glad I was that it wasn't one of those God forsaken 9/1086's.

Well,I'm glad you like your 1070.the worst, most awkward, underpowered tractor I ever drove was a 1070-that guy had 3 of them!and a 1270.true,they were worn out(that guy and his'helpers' could "tear up an anvil with a feather")
That experience kinda 'jaded'my opinions of Case tractors.I'm sure the good ones were just that-good!But,I've never seen or driven a good one.

Well you don't like Case Tractors/ To bad for you /Around here Them Red Junks Are Gone only the J I CASE tractors & John Deeres are About all you will fine here.IH lost the Market With there Idea Every Farmer was 20 years old and Drove Tractors Like a Cowboy,Controls EVERY THERE/Bring You IH up here To my farm in Ithaca ,NY & I will Beat You 966-986 With A 1070 =the Fuel pump has Never been played with.

I do not and have never owned an '86 seres tractor-have'nt even sat in the seat of one in20+years.However ,I sure like my '56 series tractors!Someday when I am able,My next big tractor will be a 1486!FWA would be a plus.

I actually hooked up an electric pump out of a barrel of fuel to eliminate these issues. I have blown out every fuel line on the tractor. With the electric pump running I had good fuel psi from every line

The case tractors like to get loose baffles in the muffler and plug her up. They won't rev up or pull anything when that happens but they also smoke like H E double toothpicks. I got into one many yeas ago that was already half way torn down looking for problems. Repaired what I found wrong, fired her up and it ran fine. Next day, that baffle must have got back in the right place to plug muffler and same old crap. Clue on that was it was hissing and blowing smoke out of leakage points ahead of muffler.
Far as liking or not liking case, I feel it is mostly familiarity. I was not around them until merger and therefore had little knowledge of their particulars. Then, when something gives you grief you cuss it out because of the brand not because you don't have the answers.

Pump timing should be 30 degrees btdc on a 1070. Not sure what you mean about tdc but if you have pump set at that that is incorect. It is injecting too late.

You might want to check rack movement on pump also.Maybe not so good rebuild on pump if it was just done.

You said fuel from every line.Explain every line. If you have a redone pump than you should be getting 15--20 psi at final filter while cranking over engine or for sure when ideling even if its rough idle.If you are sure fuel is getting to pump than i would for sure check rack movement.Remove cap at front of pump (cap takes a 3/4 wrench i think ) an with fingers just see that it moves very freely.

After finally realizing there was a filter in there we threw that thing away an put a old fashined glass filter on ours. I wouldnot be afraid to run with out it as first filter will get dirt out any way.You really have to be careful an not let adapter turn in tank when you work on that need to hold tank witting an not let it turn an cause leak! .So be aware

Take the tap from the fuel tank and check the gauze, after 30+ years, then bleed the filters independently upto and including the pump.

Paul, Did you find the fix yet?
Don't think I'm being smart here but I had this happen on a 930 once. The throttle linkage came apart on one of those little ball joints so felt like it was hooked up but no revs. Could it be something as simple?

Is The Shout off Cable All The Way off/ they Some times Slip in the Holder at the pump End & Leave the Shout down Part way On .
