i have a ih 430 baler. i cant get it to make straight bales have the packing fingers adjust the whole way in shapened knifes springs adjust the same. as u look at the baler from the back the left side is short than the other.it also makes different length bales once in a while. it will run fine and then make a long bale not any pattern just when ever. looking for suggestions.

One way to make a more consistant bale is to have a consistant feed.I like to put around 20 strokes per bale-get to 17,down shift;23spb,up shift. It also helps to run at pto speed or slightly less.A baler will not work right if they are run too slow.run it"up to speed".

If you are not getting straight bales, the Operaters Manual states 1,improper packer finger adjustment 2,improper raking of material 3,improper picking up of material.Picking up with the inside of the pickup 4, auger belt slipping or auger speed not high enough. Also check that the tension on the twine going to the knotters is equal/even ( Twine tensioner adjustment inside the twine chest on the left side. For plastic twine 1 to 2 lb tension, for sisal twine 4 to 10 lb tension). As for different lenght bales, either the metering device is not functioning properly or the trip arm and trip dog are not disengaging (check that the plastic bush in the metering wheel is OK.)TSG.

You maybe adjusting the packing fingers the wrong way. For more hay in the left side you have to move them to the right. They will pickup more hay to take to the left. Adjusting them to the left will make them take less hay. I adjusted them wrong for years until I happened to read a manual one time that explained what to do.

Also how you rake your hay can effect the bale shape. Where you drive on the windrow will change it too. Try holding the windrow to plunger side close. If that does not work try moving around on the windrow and see if that helps. I had a IH 46 baler that made banana bales unless you kept the windrow clear to the right side of the pickup. My NH balers make a better bale with the windrow to the left.

May not be the same condition, but my Case baler is very sensitive to PTO speed. If I run less than indicated 540 speed, the bale is longer on the right side. Have to run just a little faster than 540 to get consistent bales.

On ih run at about 350 pto speed. They were known for variable bale lenght. But check needle arm adjustment and measuring wheel and trip as that can affect it. Check wedges in bale chamber and adjust the tension on the 2 back handles on the bale shute.

Clean bale chamber out and see if it has hay buildup in the corners of the chamber that will also do the bowed bales.

I have a NH and a Massey, to get consistent nice straight and tight bales from these you need a nice fat windrow, run the baler at recommended strokes per min. according to the book, of course keep your chamber tension set and with mine anyway, stuff em for all they will swallow. Up shift or down shift if necessary and keep em full. We use a mechanical loader that just doesn't work if the bales aren't nice. Keep that plunger adjusted in the chamber and the knife sharp. IH. always had a good baler!

I have a 430 myself and havehad this problem sometimes too 1 run the baler as far left as you can make the auger do its job also check the timing on the knoter mine was odd just a hair I re timed it and played with the chamber tension and after that 1/2 my bales stand on end. also I have baled a few 100 bales and have never had to move the fingers. Good luck call me if you need to chat 405 205-9775 Iam in OKC
