I have a Haier dehumidifier quit working after 2 years every switch works...I can't find were to put freon in...it takes R-22...my last one lasted 10 years..

Home air conditioners have been like that for years. "You have to buy a line tap that pierces a hole in the low side line. The line tap has Stradter(sp) fitting so them you can connect a hole to fill with R-22.

Do you know where a person could buy the tap and R-22 freon and $$$ I would be looking at...Thanks

Unless you have a friend, only people with license can purchase freon. Anyone selling freon to a person without an license could be subjected to a large fine. I think it's $34,500. I thought freon 22 was taken off the market in 2010. Are you sure your dehumidifier uses 22? The older dehumidifiers used 12.

We have the EPA to thank for the clean air act.

I dought that it even takes 22 but some newer odd number. Have the licence so I could buy it but your cost is better to replace it.

Haier is elcheapo Chinese. Unless you have everything to add freon yourself, assuming thats what it needs, you'll be able to buy another one for less money than it'll cost to fix.

Your post is a little confusing in that you state "every switch works", then ASSUME it's low on freon.

If you simply stated "compressor runs with no heating/cooling effect" it would make more sense.

WHY do you think it needs freon? Typically that's the LAST thing one expects to be wrong with a sealed refrigeration system unless it has been damaged/pierced/broken.

Another way of putting it is to say that "almost certainly your unit does NOT simply need freon. If it DOES, there is a leak somewhere that needs to be repaired, as well.

(quoted from post at 05:04:18 07/24/11) compressor runs with no cooling/heating effect

You've done it already, probably...call a hvac guy and have them put the tap on and replenish...they do it all the time....save yourself the hassle of understanding and money...
