o/t - Honda Big Red

Guy I rent a few acres from is cleaning out his Dad's house, garage, and shop. As he lives in NM (and this is WI), he's getting rid of a fair amount of stuff. Asked if I knew of anyone who might want/need a Big Red that doesn't run. He doesn't know what it needs, it just doesn't run. Probably hasn't since his Dad passed away two years ago. (may be nothing more than bad gas, may be much more) Got to thinking that maybe I could use it - would be more practical than using a V10 F350 to run out in the pasture to pick up a new calf. But I have no clue what it's worth. He's already given me some tools, bolts, etc. just to get them out of there, without them being sent to China for scrap... I wouldn't feel right asking for the wheeler as well. Looks pretty good, with the exception of most of the seat cover being gone. Also - those are shaft drive with reverse, right? Thanks.

Ours is a 1984, shaft drive, reverse, high and low range. Tougher than anything I have seen. I don't ever think I've seen one sell for under $500, and as high as $1500 if it is exceptionally nice. I don't think you'd regret owning that machine.

shaft drive/reverse-yes.those old honda 3 wheelers are bullet proof.I got two atc 200s,run the crap out of them!Give the man a couple hundred bucks -for a nonrunner, thats fair.

not being smart a$$, a cup of gas to run out in field compared to a gallon!..... i would ask them nicely, what are your plans for the 3-wheeler, it could work nice here on my farm if you are wanting to sell/let it go, [something like that]. can attach a small cart behind wheeler also.

There are three different Honda Big Red 3-wheelers.

The 1982/1983 model is hardtail, chain drive, no reverse. Same as the "200M" from later years.
The 1984 model is hardtail, shaft drive, with reverse. Looks identical to the 1982/1983 model from a distance.
The 1985-1987 model is shaft drive with reverse AND rear suspension.

*sigh* It sucks to be a kid with a fascination with 3-wheelers, and a photographic memory in the mid-1980's. 25 years later you look like a know-it-all...

Thanks for the info. I think I saw a suspension on
this one... Didn't know what you meant by
"hardtail" until you mentioned the suspension on
the late models.
I'll ask about it tomorrow when I'm back there to
pick up the other stuff he's giving me. He told me
several times that he doesn't want much (if
anything) for this stuff - he just wants things to
go to people who can and will use them - not just
resell or scrap for a few bucks profit.
I knew his Dad (WWII vet who I knew from church)-
he kept stuff in good shape, so I'm almost betting
the major problem with it is old/bad gas.

mkirsch, you were not the only one with lust for 3 wheelers in the 80's!!! Good memory of all of the details! Had a 200s and even raced a 250R. What a fast one! I sure like my 4x4 Rubicon though......

They don't bring much when they are running. Everyone wants a fourwheeler now. The quad is so much more stable and a lot safer. I agree $200 is likely more than fair.I doubt the parts have much resale demand even.

up here there are more than we know what to do with. on craigslist ive seen ones that are in mint condition up to about 1300 or so and good condition maybe between 800-1100 and rough or non running probably 300-500.
