Navistar 6.0 Diesel

So first thing Monday I got my truck that I recently posted on into the local shop where I and wife have been going for some years. They have been good to us and had advertised a while back that they had sent two techs to Navistar Diesel school. so after a few hours they called to ask if they could have it for the next day as they weren't sure about what they found and they had an experienced part time guy coming in next day. So they found that it was the EGR valve and replaced it. The good thing is that they also downloaded an update that causes idle speed to vary causing turbo vanes to actuate. I have been hearing recently of the variable vanes getting stuck by rust. So get the update before you need to get your cab lifted to fix the turbo!

If it's in a Ford, no cab raise needed for a turbo. It's far easier to do head gaskets that way though. Best thing you can do is put a boost gauge on it. If boost levels exceed 25 psi, vanes are probably stuck closed. Keep running over 25 psi boost and a head gasket job is in your future.
