Which one would you choose? A tractor has to go!

So, the wife is on my case again about all the treasures in my pole barn! Actually, I need to sell a tractor so I can concrete the barn, tired of working in the dirt. I"ve got a early 70"s MF 175 diesel(MP that works) that is in the process of a total rebuild (engine wise). My other utility tractor is a Ford 3910 with 4000 hours. The bulk of my farming is minute compared to most of you fellas: 25 acres of Perennial Peanut hay. Baler is a JD 346 and the cutter is a NH sickle that the neigbor and I share. I have the brand spanking new MF 583 that is used on my R.O.W. contracts, so HP is not an issue. If you were in my shoes, which one would you part with? I"ve got my ideas, but just curious of the opinioms. Sorry, no green tractors in the fleet!

Thats a great answer having two tractors shouldnt be any problem unless its the wife and she isnt worth much if she is complaining about two tractors.

I would sell the MF 175. It is the oldest and the Ford 3910 is a great smaller utility tractor. You would have the MF 583 for the bigger stuff and the Ford 3910 for the little stuff.

You might be able to find some concrete guy that would trade the tractor for the concrete work.

My wife was alwys on me about my tools I used in my contracting business . She expected me to go back in time by using strictly all hand tools & sell every electric tool i had . many times she gave me that its them or me crap . Well in celebrating our 33 yrs of marriage , she handed me divorce papers & left for play land . If your wife is starting this crap now , it'll only get worse as time goes on (believe me) . If you're providing her with her luxuries & paying the bills , that should be enough to make a woman happy . Ever since women started that womens lib crap , the men have been getting shafted & the lawyers just love to see this . Well that's my advice & warnings . If you use all the stuff mentioned to increase property value then keep it . Loose the nagging wife .HTH ! God bless

My wife helped my buy a smaller tractor, and I gave her the big tractor for Valentines Day - she still plows with it after work all fall.

I got 8 tractors, 4 old one's of dad's, and 4 I got that are a little harder workers, tho all 8 get used now and then for real farming.

Think I got a good one.

MF was never sold around here, has no support, you don't see any around, there is no parts, wouldn't know how to run one. Meanwhile, I have 4 blue and one grey tractors - I suppose you can guess what I'd keep and what I'd get rid of. ;)

No one will give you pennies for a basket case tractor. Put the 175 back together, or is worth scrap to all the vultures, and you can't blame shoppers for backing away from it, I wished I backed away from the 35 basketcase i am just finishing. But then, you will have two great Massey Fergusons, all you need then is a third...

HAD one like that.......Call her my practice wife now............... Wife now had a husband just as bad. We do pretty good together now because of it.

You'll be money and nerves ahead to dump her and keep the tractors. At least until YOU want to sell or trade one.

If both are diesel, it'd be a hard decision (for me), but if not, I'd go with diesel. Only because I never has a gasoline tractor and haven't had any problems with my diesel...

If you live close to a concrete plant or are on a route where trucks are common, you may just talk with the drivers and offer them a place to get rid of leftovers, then just have your place ready with the means to form off small sections.

Good Luck with whatever you decide.

Build a man cave in your pole barn with your tractors and go to it to get away from your wife. Why should she care what's in your pole barn!

They usually don't...... It's the "he gave it up cause I told him to" that is at play............ The concrete is just an excuse to give in..............

I'd agree with Allan, but then again that may explain while I'm still single.

Of the tractors, it sounds like the ford would be the wise choice to part with. The MF will have new life with that rebuild.

Feel sorry for any man needing a woman's permission to make a business decisions.

A garage or pole barn will always fill to max capacity. If you need room, add on and concrete everything.

How bad is the rest of the MF175? Mine is on its second engine,(didn't go deep enough the first time around), second clutch, multi-power pump replaced, PTO clutch replaced, PTO brake replaced a second time, Still runs hot, needs a seat, power steering pump, brakes and tires. Oh yeah, and the sheet metal is trashed, has no nose cone, and no lights.

Depends... if you want the most money you part with the Ford. If you want to keep the best tractor you part with the MF.

Thanks for the great replies. It's relly not just about two tractors, it's all trucks, motercycles, boats etc. that I spend $$ and dont quite finish. Sometimes it's just too good of a deal to pass up! I think I'll keep the wife, she's kind of pretty, and a great mom to my children. What's one tractor in the grand scheme of things?

Be a peacemaker, Give the ford to your wife... paint it pink if you have to. Give her a few chores to do with it, and let her be part of the team. Take some pics of her have a few of the good ones framed, and if she loses interest and eventually doesn't use it anymore, tell her to sell it so you can place concrete in the barn.

As for uncompleted projects.... Thats truly something you need to grow wise about. I can see a TV show in this. "Husband and Father runs off. Only to be found buried alive in pole barn junk".

Or, buy a backhoe to dig a big hole to bury all of your junk.

There are some things a wife does that a tractor just cannot replace.
:D :D

Well there you go! Get rid of everything but the farm equipment.

Guy's wife falls ill suddenly, he takes her to the emergency room. Doc works on her awhile, comes out with a grave expression.

"How's she doin', Doc?" asks the husband.

"Well, frankly, I don't like the look of her, at this point."

"Neither do I, but she's a great cook, and really good with the kids."
