when dealing with water systems in colder climates it does not pay to do short cuts (cheap out) you will save money doing it the right way to start with. Nothing worse then repairing water lines in the dead of winter, you said the frost line is three feet, if you have traffic running over it or livestock it will drive the frost deeper then you think. Just food for thought :idea:
 
In south Georgia we put ours deep enough so the lawn mower doesn't hit them. :) It is hard to imagine having to bury lines as deep as y'all in the northern lattitudes. TDF
