Front end preference

What kind of front ends do you guys prefer?I like wide, they work best in our irrigated corn and hay operation.

The REAL ones are the best, as far as I'm concerned, NO silicone around here, no SIR, No thanks!

I like having the wide frt but the tricycle would sure be handy in the tight places I have to deal with.Course, with a tricycle frt, I wouldn't be dealing with them long before I turned myself over.........

I was wondering how long that would take.... I agree.

As to tractors, Narrow is good for manuverability in tight places, or on mounted cornpickers of course, otherwise wide front is better for most everything else.

Wide no matter what, MFWD if $ allow. They work the best *Here* (southern MN) especially with a loader! Snow in winter, mud in spring, extra pull doing heavy work. Do like the NF for backing wagons in the shed though.

Tricycle! Grew up on "em here in the hills of Southern Tier of NY...maneuvability is the key...if you don"t have the common sense to keep yourself outta places where you are gonna tip with a tricycle, ya prolly gonna get yourself in trouble no matter what front end you have.
Everybody on here gets all excited over wide front tractors...a good example is Super C Farmalls, guys want the BIG bucks for "em cause of the front ends...around here ya trip over the front ends laying in the ding weeds after being changed out once somebody tried to turn one in less than a football field.
Besides, ya can get two on the trailer for pulls with a tricycle, and park 2 in the space of one in the shed!

All depends on what I am doing. I use a trike front end tractor when I cut an rake hay but when I bale I use tractors with wide fronts. Also the loader tractors ALL have wide fronts

I have seven tractors. The two newest are wide front MFW all the others are nfe. I prefer to have MFW where I need it for traction, but I really like the nfe tractors for nimbleness and turning ability. I have had four close calls to an upset in my life and and all four were on wfe tractors. Obviously everything else being equal a wide front is a little more stable. I will say a little because a wf will tip to a pretty good angle before hitting the front pivot stop, and it will still overturn if it is tilted beyond its stability limit. But it still comes down to adequate ballast, staying off slopes too steep for the tractor, and knowing and paying attention to conditions such as chuck holes rocks roots etc. So it really comes down to the operator driving the tractor that he is ON correctly.
