Finally , something that deer don't like

After getting all of our okra patch eaten by deer the past 2 years i have figured it out and we have tried everything short of shooting them. 2 or 3 inches of urine in gallon milk jugs. Drill 6 holes around the top, remove lid and set around the garden. It has worked for 3 weeks and our okra is doing great. Our garden is about 100'X40', we have 8 jugs . They have never bothered the corn or anything else but they love okra leaves. Oh, I changed oil in my '63 2000 this morning.

Do you pickle some of your okra? I love the stuff- but have to pay 4 bucks a jar for it ("Talk 'o Texas" brand), because you can't raise (or buy) okra around here. Went to their website- you can buy it by the case for much less, but the shipping (of course) eats up the savings.

That idea must have been around since I was little except every time I had to eat okra it must have been the stuff that the jugs was spilled on..............

we pickle about 3-4 cases, give a lot away. Wife puts it in the homemade soup. I like it fried and pickled.

I think you should use poultry urine.

We have a neighbor who is selling a Hereford cow that has only had male calves. The owner thinks it a genetic thing as her mother only had male calves.

Another idea is to hang a deodorant soap bars around the garden. I had issues with my fruit trees and young branches and leaves being eaten. I hung one bar of Dial gold soap on each tree and have has success for 2 years. I replaced the soap this past spring. You can buy a 20 pack of bars for 5-6 bucks at Sam's Club.
One interesting study

was told to tie 1 inch by 18 inch strands of white cloth from trees and bushes and fences. Tried it and it works super good. completely stopped garden and tree damages.

Deer stay out of our garden since I added a couple of strands of 50 pound test monofilament fishing line about the five foot high fence. They would jump the fence before, but not now. One strand is about six feet high, the other is about seven and a half feet up.

The ONLY way to eat okra is pickled. An Okie fixed me up on that on a quail-hunting trip. He couldn"t convince me on the artichokes.
