OT--- Craigslist / computer problem

Not sure what to try. Starting on Thursday evening I can no longer access Craigslist. Clicking on my favorite list, clicking on a link in another persons post, or just Googling and trying to open CL will not work. I get the big white screen; "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". Funny thing is the other computers in the house are unaffected. Absolutely everything works just as always on my computer other than the CL issue. Does anyone have any pointers for me??? Thank you.

I also did a system restore to a point about 3 days before this problem appeared, with no success.

Search tempest is also on my favorite list. I can do a search there, but can't open any of the listings.

my compt clams up on me, instead of try to click onto other things to try, i just shut it down, unplug it and wait few minutes. when it restarts, its ok.....not a compt wiz, thats works for me

I think your problem is that Craigslist stores a cookie to determine which city you use, and for some reason that cookie now points to a non-existent page. Go into your cookies and delete the cookies for craigslist.org. The specific one that saves the home city is called "cl_def_hp". The others can probably be left alone.

I can't tell you how to delete the cookie because you didn't say which browser you're on.

Internet Explorer. I deleted all cookies. Still no go. Now I'm re entering log in info on all my saved sites.

Also added craigslist to the list of trusted sites in the security settings and still no go.

Scott, I'm sorry about the cookies. I should have warned you to delete only the cookies for Craigslist.

Another possibility is your computer is pointing to a stale DNS cache. Open up a command prompt window and enter the following:

nslookup craigslist.org

You should get something like this:

Server: 209.183.33.23
Address: 209.183.33.23#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: craigslist.org
Address: 208.82.238.129

This tells you that the IP address for craigslist.org is 208.82.238.129. Check and see if this is the same answer you get on your other computers. If it's not, you are getting bad DNS information; I can't tell you much more without knowing exactly how you're connected to the internet.

You can try bypassing DNS and going straight to the IP address, using the IP address you got from DNS on your good computer, for example use http://208.82.238.129 instead of the DNS name.

No problem about the cookies. I deleted the CL ones first with no luck, so then I cleared them all out. I tried the nslookup and got a flash on the screen that said it timed out and then went blank.

Doing some snooping around on the internets has revealed that I am not the only one that had this problem pop up on the 14th.
