' 65 mustang coupe

So... we found a 1965 ford mustang coupe for sale. It is one of those father/daughter projects that wasn't finished and now she needs money for college stories. Well getting back to the car, it has a straight 6 engine with an automatic transmission, all the parts to be put back together with, a new fender, battery box, rocker panels, the inside is newly painted, no major rust, and a "Por 15 underside?". The care cost $3,500 and I have no clue on how many miles are on it or how the paint is. So the big question that you have been just waiting to see in this conversation is do you think it is worth it or should i leave it and run?

I have a '65 and a '66 that are both restoration projects. The '66 with the 200 straight 6 and three speed was $900. Runs great, body in need of paint and interior trashed. For $3500 I would expect a decent driver in need of cosmetic work and tuning to be a presentable dependable driver.

"no major rust"
Have you actually pulled up the carpet and looked? I have never seen an early Mustang that did not have the floorboards completely rusted out. Has someone scabbed sheet metal patches over the rust holes or have the floorpans been professionally replaced?
A 6 cylinder, automatic coupe has no collector value so for $3500 it ought to be a complete, running car.

POR 15 is on the bottom because it needs new floor pan's if they didn't already replace them. In pretty good shape and with all the parts to put it back together it's worth about $1500 in our area. Decent runners are around $3500.

a "jeep" person buying a rustang. lol as stated, depending on just about everything, check around on flebay, c-list, see what the difference between turn-key and builder projects are going for in local/surrounding areas.

Overpriced. The seller is trying to get back out of it what they already wasted putting into it.
With the economy in the dumper as it is, there are lots and lots of nice old cars on the market at good prices. Folks that have them don't drive them as they used to. Gas prices, they had to get a second job and now don't have the time, tired of paying for a license and insurance when they only put 20 miles a year on it etc. are some of the many reasons they decide it's time to let go of them.
Keep looking.

I'm keeping my Falcon.......at least for now.

Considering it's in pieces but it's all supposed to be there, I would say 2 grand top dollar. If they think it's worth 3500, don't get too excited as they probably won't take less than about 3 grand (which is overpriced).
Look at it and if you think it's worth 2 grand, then offer them that and give them your phone number and tell them to call when and if they are willing to sell for that. Remember, that's all the money you have to spare.........
Below is my Dads 65 Falcon.

Coupe, 6 banger, automatic? worth about 1/2 what their asking. It might be worth 3k if it was a fastback with a HiPo 289 and 4 speed.
