What disc mowers do you guys use? Any one use sitrex, fort or morra? What about the big brands kuhn, NH, vermeer?

Vermeer. previously I had a Vicon. All will cut at high speed regardless of whether the dew is off the grass.

Have owned Taarup, Bush Hog and John Deere. The Taarup and John Deere were a different design (from each other) and both worked great. Had more trouble with the BH, 'though I used it for several years and cut lots of hay with it.

I had a Fort and that thing was a piece of junk from day one. I would rather have a sickle mower than another Fort. I thought I saved money the day I bought it, but it is true you get what you pay for. JMHO.

Could be he got a lemon.....good freind got a CASEIH a few years ago, had it for one cutting......what a piece....

I used a Kuhn HD for several years and really liked it. several brands use the Kuhn cutter bar.
Be aware that there are standard duty and heavy duty differences.
The John Deere units were standard duty Kuhns.

I like how Vermeer has tool-less blade changing. More brands might have that now, it seems like that would be handy.

Vermeer has each disk lubed by itself not the whole bar full of oil they are suppose to be relubed every 2 years the use wheel bearing type grease. There selling point is if you mow ditches with one end of the bar up or down they units don"t starve for oil.

Vicon here. No trouble yet. Bought it used about 5 years ago. Only cut about 150 acres a year though so I would imagine anything would last that long.

Kuhn! This is the first year for my FC300G. Bought it very used out of Oklahoma. So far I still have less than $2000 in it.

It is really relatively easy to work on. Had to replace one bearing on the flail shaft that was out when I bought it and two gears in the bar that had bad teeth because a bearing went out in the bar from not enough gear lube before I owned it.

I will NEVER go back to using my New Holland 479 haybine. Down and tangled grass is no problem at all for the Kuhn even at 6 MPH or so.

Krone would be my second choice.

Also remember that Deere 1360 is the same basic machine as the Kuhn 300. I can't speak for the other brands, but Kuhn made at least the bars for most of the major manufacturers.

The Kuhn advantage is the fact it is a gear driven bar instead of a belt. DOUG

Ive had Bush Hog, Deere, New Holland, and multiple New Ideas. Bush Hog was an ok machine, some fairly expensive and aggervating problems that I never really resolved. Deere was a good machine but worn out when I got it.

The New Holland has been incredible but its a late model. Probably my favorite of all. As to New Ideas, between my dad and I weve had 5 5408's. 3 grey ones, 1 red with metal belt shield, and 1 red one with the plastic. Super good mowers, my second favorite.

I've got a pile of Forts that people brought for me to try and repair for them. Total junk.
