Have any of you had problems with the gate latch hooks/arms on JD round balers(535,566,567,567) lately??? They all use the same latch. I have had to replace five of them on three different bales this haying season. They all where bent. Usually they only get bent if the baler makes an over size bale. I even bent one on my 567. I know I never over sized the baler. I usually only make 66 inch bales. I am wondering if there is a bad batch of soft ones out there. The one I bent on my baler was a new one. I had robbed one to get a neighbor going over a weekend. The orginal was fine the new one was bent. The latch angle is off and then the door will open when you get to 3/4s of a bale.

How about it TXJIM it seems you do a bunch of baling, have you seen any problems???

I have baled quite a few bales & worked on a lot of balers in the past but not this year. The drought has seen to that. I don't remember replacing any latches although I've shimmed my share. My 467 is an '05 model so it probably missed the batch of latches you're referring to. I know there was a time JD had some very bad springs that broke prematurely.

The drought has created some very high rd bale prices. Good fertilized 4 X 5+ bales of coastal are bringing $70-$90 per bale.

we custom bale with a deer , have for last 15 years , and never had trouble with the latches,
only trouble im haven now is the wrap wants to wrap around the rubber roll that feeds the wrap .

Do you put talcum powder on the rubber Netwrap feed roller when a new roll of net is installed? Have you checked rubber roller for cuts/nicks? If a knife blade ever touches the rubber roller wrapping will happen.

I haven't had a problem with the gate latch on my JD 466 baler. However, I have had problems with the net wrap wrapping around one of the rollers. I had a JD tech out and he said to use talcom powder only when the roller is damp. My baler will wrap about three bales just fine and then wrap around the roller. He said I need a new baler which I can't afford. Roy
