Not having much luck finding info. concerning this beast. Been all over the place on this and different forums.
This machine has good power in 1st. and 2nd. Both forward and reverse.
It does NOT move in 3rd. 3rd. is probably to fast even for the road ,but would like to have it workable if possible.
Any help sure would be appreciated.
What is the principle about the working of these old wheel loaders as far as moving forward and reverse???? No CLUTCH.

Are all four wheels the same size on your model?
I have an old Hough loader, with a Hercules engine in it. The torque converter is not the strongest in the world, but it will load. Use it mostly for lifting, more than loading. Mine has a forward/reverse shuttle and yes a clutch. It is a weird machine to operate and the cab is hot with the engine heat breathing down your neck. Its not a D6 dozer, but will do a lot of work in 1st gear. It doesnt like 3rd and forget 4th. I probably need to replace the clutch disc in it but finding info, not much out there. As for finding parts, forget it. Your closer neighbor is going to be NAPA on a lot of parts. Email is open.

i would think international should be able to provide or tell ya where you can get parts for the old horse.. we had a situation once, we bought an h80 and nothing over 2nd gear it just wasnt there. after checking the valve body we discovered the previous owner had disconnected the spool valve for third and fourth,, it was his way of keeping his operators from driving around to fast in the yard. might be worth a look see. other then that you will have to get a pressure gauge, 3500 lbs and start checking hyd pressures in the diffrent ranges, and the forward and reverse range.

Will it lug the engine down any in third and wide open throttle?

My H60b is weak in 3rd too. I have cleaned the sump for the charging pump and changed the filter in the torque converter charging pump circuit and it seemed to help slightly. I have also noticed it works better in the heat of the summer.

Your best friend will be to get a set of books.

I also have and old gasser michigan with a million hours on it and in 3-4 th gears its stronger than the Hough.

Thanks guys for the help. In 3rd. it just kinda gives the wheel a little shake in forward and reverse--really no movement at all.

I will check to see if the spool is moving--is that a straight forward thing to see while looking up there from the bottom?????

Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

Going into 3rd. there is a bolt in the quadrant to keep it from going into 3rd. I have to pull the shifting lever out to override that position to get it into 3rd.

If 3rd. is truly out does that give me bad news about 1st. and 2nd or are they totally independent of 3rd.??????
