Gresen Hydraulic loader valve

I have a gresen 2712 loader valve on the front end loader of my john deere 2020. I am getting a loud hissing that sounds like it comes out of the loader valve. Can I replace a seal in this, replace the whole thing? Help

I've had good luck by taking valves to my local hydraulic shop for rebuild. Sounds like it's leaking internally.

Your 2020 has a closed-center hydraulics so it needs a closed-center loader valve or it will act as you describe.

Is this something new to you or has it been working properly and now failed?

If it HAS been working properly and has now failed, the only repairable parts of the valve are the closed-center conversion plug and the high pressure relief. Either could have lost an "O" ring or the relief could have otherwise failed.

Most ANY other INTERNAL leak is going to be a cracked casting or a flaw in the casting that has opened up. There are NO internal seals on the spools... they are a precision fit in their bores.

Only other thing I can think of to check is the centering spring at the end of the spool to make sure it is not broken or something is otherwise binding to keep the spool from centering.

If it is new to you and you don't know if it has always been this way, it could be the wrong valve for closed-center or simply need a closed-center conversion plug installed.

Bob, Thanks it is a loader that has been on the tractor for many years and just failed. How do I check the closed-center conversion plug and the high pressure relief? There are a couple big plugs on it I am not comfortable taking them out until I know what is behind them.

The conversion plug just has a couple of "O" rings on it t seal to the appropriate passages.

The relief valve is either a sealed cartridge or has an external adjustment.

ONE way to get an idea of the location of a high pressure leak on a closed-center component is to start with the machine cooled down and note which area begins to warm up first upon startup.

Also, GOOGLE the information you have about the valve and you can probably pull up a parts diagram for it.
