Old Chevy flat bed title

Dad's 54 chevy flat bed has always been in his name, even after his death. I would just pay the license. I would like to change that. Should I put the title in the name of the trust, or in my name? I think It should be in my name, as I use it the most. Is there any advantage of it being in the family trust, or in one person's name, or just leave it as it is? Stan

you are in Cal? I would go to the DMV and ask at the desk, or just call. it may not be your decision to make, since he is gone, he can't sign it over to you personally, or maybe?- ask the state. If it doesn't mater to them, you like the truck, the 'estate' might be just looking at the $, so if possible, put it in your name, you can always change your mind later...

The trust has served its purpose- the creation of it generated a large fee for the shyster who talked your dad into it. With trusts, you generally pay $3,500 to some lawyer to create it, in order to avoid a $1,500 probate.

Put it in your name. Its a '54 Chev truck, for heavens sake, not a goldmine in Colorado!

vehicles in a trust only do one thing, they identify the assets so the lawyers get a bigger cut.

It varies from state to state. In North Carolina the executor of the estate has the legal right to sign over a title to the new owner. As someone suggested, contact the DMV, or the local contractor that sells license tags if your state operates that way.

as said, states varies, when my dad passed, i just signed his name on title when we sold car, never told anyone anything, the party took title to dmv, changed over name, dmv never asks, they just took their money... they never check half the time if the person is alive or decided, as long as it looks legit. just sign it and take it in and act like he just signed it.
