OT-But Mom got bit by what we think was a BR spider...

BR=brown recluse She first got bit yesterday afternoon, she got to kill it & didn`t squash it to kindom come...lol. But then, she told me this morn`n that about 2:30am, she got bit again. She IS going to the night clinic in a couple hours to get checked & I said she should put the dead 1 in a pill bottle to show the doc. Now what I`m thinking I should do is mix up a strong batch(?4oz to a gal?) of liquid 7, spray around the couch & even turn it over & get the underneath?!? I`ve also got a perty full bottle of boric acid, maybe dust the heck around it also? We`d appreciate any advice!!! Thanks in advance

Those things are bad. Can be deadly to some people.Flesh will turn black and rot. Takes several years for it to heal. Had one on my leg in '89, the bone was showing for a while, then slowly started to grow back. Can still see the spot where it was.

Hope mom recovers ok. Under the circumstances, I would say when in doubt, spray.

yep those things can be nasty, trouble with spraying is they can hide in the hardest places to get to.old clothes hanging in a closet is a favorite place I'm told, but i'd certainly spray that couch if i got bit twice in two days!

Those spiders are bad news. Get medical care. Hal

Nothing to be taken lightly --- if you have it Google images of it -- If it has the Fiddle marking on it seek med attention now !

We put glue traps behind most all furniture. They catch all kinds of critters crawling along base boards.

A brown recluse spider bite will develope a hanging sack of pus after a while.Dont depend on the doctor to know what hes looking at.The bite has an enzyme that rots flesh. This is serious.

Something i do is put sticky mice traps at various places such as behind comode---corners of garage doors an in dark corners or in out of way places. Lets you see what is crawling around. No brown recluse yet but variety of other critters.

Update....PA(nope...no doc for nite clinic  ) told mom she didn`t think it was a BR. I`m going over there `bout noon tomarrow to check on! She said she felt fine...they took her temp, not high. Better to be safe than...She IS 75 & pretty healthy, even though on antibiotics(& other meds). The PA didn`t prescribe anything. We`ll be keeping a Close eye on! Thanks for replies, except for El toro`s....lol....I would`a rather seen that pic of his Troybilt....AGAIN.....

Don't laugh, I have never had them in the house but have had 3 friends swear by this trick. All three have done it over the years and never seen another b.r.

Something about the smell of hedge apples (some places call them osage oranges) drives them off. All three folks I know who have tried this put a hedge apple in a pie plate in the crawl space and another in the attic. They pick up a sack full in the fall and put them in the freezer. Just add one to the pan first of every month, never smells really just sets there and rots and they have not seen another b.r. for years.

Hope the best for your mom!!!

Dave
